Sports Premium

At Bramley C of E Infant School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

PE and school sport play a very important part in the life at Bramley. We believe that PE and school sport contribute to the holistic development of our children.  Through participation, our children build and learn more about key values; resilience, aspiration and courage as well as promoting the importance of good sportsmanship through honesty and friendship.

Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through purchasing additional sports equipment, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver quality PE sessions.

WHAT IS THE SPORTS PREMIUM?

The government is providing funding of £150 million per annum for the academic years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school Headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. Each school will receive £8,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year for the next two years.

Recently the government have committed to funding the primary school Sports Premium up until 2020 – an investment worth £750 million.

PURPOSE OF THE FUNDING

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

POSSIBLE USES OF THE FUNDING INCLUDE:
  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE

  • New or additional Change4Life sport clubs

  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport

  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport

  • Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games

  • Buying quality assured professional development modules or material for PE/sport

  • Providing places for pupils on before or after school

We spend a considerable amount more to improve the sporting opportunities for children than we receive from Sports Premium funding.

We are focusing on 4 key areas for raising the standards of Sport at our school, we are focusing on:

  • Increasing the quality of Resources

  • Increasing opportunities for children to engage in sporting activities

  • To ensure children in the Early Years meet GLD in Gross Motor Skills

  • Increasing participation in before and after school sports clubs

At Bramley C of E Infants, our aim, when allocating the sports premium funding, is to promote and further children’s understanding of how to live a healthy and active life style. We encourage all children to participate in a range of physical activities as well as lunch time games and after school clubs. We have given all children the opportunity to compete in school competitions as well as select those children who excel in sport to compete in local competitions. Sports premium funding also ensures that the school has all the necessary equipment for children to engage in a range of sporting activities.

SWIMMING

We are lucky that children are able to use the facilities at St Catherine's School to take part in swimming lessons.
